Duty Honor Commitment

The NNSS F&R Benevolent Association supports several charities, organizations and events. These organizations support burn survivors, the fight against cancer, school supply drives, toy drives and various other needs which arise annually. We mentor school aged children by providing school visits to discuss careers in the Fire Service. The members of the NNSS F&R BA also volunteer during Fire Prevention Month. We visit multiple schools and teach Fire Prevention and what to do in case of an emergency. Giving back to our community and volunteering to assist others is a large part of what we do.

Tradition and Service

The NNSS F&R BA Honor Guard is comprised of active members of NNSS F&R. Our Honor Guard Members work tirelessly to achieve the perfection required to honor the Fire Service. They work closely with other local Honor Guards to assist in funeral services for Line of Duty Death (LODD) for both Firefighters and Police Officers. These tragic events require a tremendous amount of personnel to support the family and agency who lost a member. The Honor Guard also attends several events such as 9/11 ceremonies, parades, Memorial Day events and many other events in honor of public service.

Today, we bid a final farewell to retired Assistant Fire Chief Joe Hogan.

Chief Hogan was widely respected as a firefighter, leader, mentor, and friend. Before joining NTTR Fire & Rescue, he honorably served our nation in Vietnam as a firefighter and rescue crew member aboard the HH-43 helicopter. His distinguished service earned numerous medals and commendations, and he was recognized as one of the most decorated enlisted members stationed at Nellis Air Force Base.

Chief Hogan continued his commitment to service with NTTR Fire & Rescue from 1978 to 1994, ultimately retiring as Assistant Fire Chief. During his tenure, he supported critical missions throughout a period of intense Cold War secrecy, contributing to operations known to few beyond the installation. Like many of his generation, he performed his duties with humility and professionalism, seeking no recognition beyond the importance of the mission itself. The sacrifices of those who served during that era were often unseen, yet their contributions were essential to our nation’s defense.

As a member of the Cold War generation of firefighters, military personnel, and public servants, Chief Hogan served under demanding conditions and with little public acknowledgment. His lifelong dedication to public service and the protection of our nation’s interests stands as a lasting legacy.

We are grateful for Chief Hogan’s service to our country and his unwavering dedication to the fire service.

Rest in peace, Chief.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Hogan family.

Never forgotten.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of participating in a wonderful community event hosted by Behavioral Health Options (BHO). BHO generously donated teddy bears to first responder agencies throughout the region to help comfort children we may encounter during emergency calls and critical incidents.

Representing Nevada National Security Site Fire and Rescue Benevolent Association, Mike Worthen was invited to attend the event and receive teddy bears on behalf of our association. We are grateful to have been included alongside our fellow first responder agencies.

While they may seem like simple stuffed animals, these teddy bears can make a tremendous difference. As first responders, we often meet children who are frightened, overwhelmed, or experiencing one of the most difficult moments of their young lives. Something as simple as a teddy bear can provide comfort, reassurance, and a sense of security when they need it most.

We sincerely thank BHO for their generosity and commitment to supporting both first responders and the communities we serve. These teddy bears will help us bring a little compassion, comfort, and hope to children during challenging times.
