Tradition and Service
The NNSS F&R BA Honor Guard is comprised of active members of NNSS F&R. Our Honor Guard Members work tirelessly to achieve the perfection required to honor the Fire Service. They work closely with other local Honor Guards to assist in funeral services for Line of Duty Death (LODD) for both Firefighters and Police Officers. These tragic events require a tremendous amount of personnel to support the family and agency who lost a member. The Honor Guard also attends several events such as 9/11 ceremonies, parades, Memorial Day events and many other events in honor of public service.

The NNSS F&R Benevolent Association supports several charities, organizations and events. These organizations support burn survivors, the fight against cancer, school supply drives, toy drives and various other needs which arise annually. We mentor school aged children by providing school visits to discuss careers in the Fire Service. The members of the NNSS F&R BA also volunteer during Fire Prevention Month. We visit multiple schools and teach Fire Prevention and what to do in case of an emergency. Giving back to our community and volunteering to assist others is a large part of what we do.
A long time resident and Mercy Ambulance/ Former AMR employee Shelly Cochran, just received some very devastating news. Approximately 3 weeks ago she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, blood cancer. She is under going a 30 day treatment protocol in Texas and then being transferred for treatment at MD Anderson. This has caused her to resign from her job and temporarily relocate to Texas. She is also the primary caregiver of her disabled son Sean. She has dedicated her life as a First Responder to be of service to others and now she needs our help. If you are in a position to, a GoFund Me account has been set up to help her with the financial challenges that are coming. If you are not in a financial position to help, please keep Shelly and her family in your prayers during this very trying time. Thank you.🙏🙏🙏.

The party has just begun! After 50 years of honorable service, Senior Paramedic Steve Brown has hung up his stethoscope.
Steve started his EMS career in Illinois in 1975 as an EMT. By 1985, he had advanced to the EMT-Intermediate level and then became an EMT-Paramedic, one of the first 1,000 in the US to earn the National Registry certifications for EMT Paramedics. The NREMTP certification became the gold standard for the EMTs and Paramedics of today. From 1985-1995, Steve worked as an EMS and Fire Instructor, and Paramedic Education Coordinator in northern Illinois, working with EMS/Fire providers - volunteer and career, rural and urban. In 1995 Steve moved to Las Vegas and worked as a Paramedic for Mercy Ambulance and AMR. In 1996 he became the Director of Fire / EMS / Safety at the then brand new Las Vegas Motor Speedway, setting the standards and procedures for motor sports safety and response in southern Nevada. In 2002, Steve graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and in 2009, he completed his Master’s degree in Emergency Management and Disaster Planning. Then, in 2004 he came out to NNSS F&R and worked as a CTOS (Counter Terrorism Operations Support) Instructor, where he taught America’s First Responders about radiological emergencies, including detection, triage, treatment and decontamination. In 2007 Steve moved to Operations within NNSS F&R where he later became a Senior Paramedic and retired in late 2025.
Steve has had one heck of a career! It was always a pleasure working with him. His friendly fire station banter will be missed around here. All of us at NNSS F&R wish him and his family the best in retirement! Thank you for your service Steve, you will be missed brother!
PSA for coyotes. It is now safe to cross the road. Steve is gone. ... See MoreSee Less
